This antique "Dolphin" Brass and Copper Gimbaled Ships Oil Lamp was from the estate of a gentleman who had once owned a shipyard many years ago.  I have had this lamp for many years, intending to use it on shipboard, but have never owned a vessel worthy of mounting it on.  This lamp is a very practical design, remaining in excellent condition- There are numerous photos showing its details and condition.
This lamp is a very high quality  original, remaining in great condition with only the lightest marks of having been used on shipboard decades ago.  All brass and copper construction.  Burner is hinged for lighting and extinguishing-  It is marked 'British Made...STARHINGE...Burner'  and
Sherwoods Ltd.  Bham' (Birmingham) on the wick rowel.
Lamp mount is is a beautiful stylized entwined Dolphin or sea serpent.  Heavily counterweighted to stay level in any sea condition.   The brass surfaces are a handsome age burnished finish.    Lamp is about 12 1/2" tall, measured from the bottom of the counterweight to the top of the chimney, and will project about 8 1/8" from the wall or bulkhead.It is quite a LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE ships' lamp.
Lamp reservoir inserts into the outer body, allowing it to be removed and taken where desired in the vessel or home.  Reservoir is a HANDSOME combination of Brass and COPPER.
